The Margate Caves Community Education Trust is a small charity in its first year of trading. We’re sad to say that the COVID-19 emergency poses a real threat to the Caves’ survival as a tourist attraction and community hub.
We have made the difficult decision to utilise the Government Job Retention Scheme (what everyone calls the furlough scheme) in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. We believe this is necessary to ensure that the Caves can re-open and remain accessible for the communities of Margate, Cliftonville and beyond.
We are continuing to work to secure financial support and are looking at ways to make the Caves and our work accessible online through our website and social media. We do ask for your patience at this time; with a reduced team it may take longer to reply to your messages, emails, and enquiries if you need to contact us (and we do love to hear from you!). Of course, the Caves remain closed until further notice.
We can’t wait to welcome you back, but for now stay safe and we’ll see you as soon as we can. What can you do to help? If you would like to support the Caves financially during this time, you can do so here.
We'd love to hear about your memories of the Caves or favourite stories, share them with us on social media or by e-mail to info@margatecaves.co.uk We are working on ways to bring the Caves to you too! There's a range of crafts dedicated to our cave painting animals over on the Learning page.
