The Margate Caves are run by The Margate Caves Community Education Trust, a registered charity.

Our success to date in negotiating a long lease on the Caves site, building a Visitor Centre and Community Rooms, as well as conserving the Caves for future generations, is thanks to our committed volunteers, generous professional team and the continued support of funders and the general public.

​

Support from members of the public, companies and charitable organisations will help us to improve our facilities, continue with our conservation work and further develop our learning and events programmes.

Centre Manager

We’re looking for an innovative individual with amazing leadership skills and experience of reaching beyond sales targets. Someone who is passionate about great customer service and improving every visitor’s experience, and committed to building community and volunteer participation. Volunteering

Help up us keep the Caves thriving! Join our friendly team, learn new skills or put yours to good use.

​

There are a variety of opportunities that can fit every timescale and skill set. We provide training where needed and all volunteers receive an induction.

​

We are looking for volunteers interested in undertaking a variety of roles including: admitting visitors in the Centre; guiding visitors through the Caves; working in the shop; assisting in the busy Café; administration for the community rooms; gardening and maintenance; or maybe you have other skills you can offer!

​

In return we can offer you training, the opportunity to develop your skills and gain experience volunteering at a heritage site, a chance to meet new people and to be part of an exciting and interesting project that benefits our local community.

​

We are a small friendly team and if you feel you can help us do a good job we would love to hear from you.

Purpose of the Role

The main purpose of this volunteer role is to support the Café Manager and Assistant in providing a welcoming and friendly service for visitors to the Centre and the local community using the café.

Cave Volunteer

Purpose of the Role

The main purpose of this volunteer role is to support the Centre Manager in providing a welcoming and friendly service for visitors to the Caves. This role will include being underground in the Caves.

Craft Volunteer

Purpose of the Role

The main purpose of this volunteer role is to assist our Learning and Engagement Manager to run craft activities throughout the year.

The main purpose of this important volunteer role is to assist our Learning and Engagement Manager to run workshops for schools at the Caves. Workshops will generally run in school hours.

The main purpose of this volunteer role is to assist our Centre Manager in keeping the outdoor space at the Caves in good order.
